The End of AUSKEY, and the introduction of myGovID

It is not that daunting!

From the end of March 2020, AUSKEY will no longer be available to access government online services such as the Business Portal.

There is currently a lot of confusion regarding these government platforms and identification methods.

This article will serve as a guide on how to get your myGovID, and also an explanation on what all the new government platforms are used for.

If you haven’t set up your myGovID already, you will need to do the following:

  1. Ensure your business details are up to date on the ABR websiteSuch as: Contact details, and director/trustee information. Login via your AusKey (if you have one) and update your ABN Details.

    If you do not have one, and therefore unable to update your details, please get in contact with us.

    AUSKey is the method which is being phased out, used to login and identify yourself when using government services on behalf of a business.

    The replacement for this is myGov ID.

  2. Setup your myGovID

    This is the replacement of AUSKEYWhen wanting to access the Business Portal, you will login via your myGovID.Please set this up as soon as possible, before AUSKEY is fully phased out at the end of March.

    The documents which you must use to set it up include your passport, drivers license, and Medicare card, however this information is protected by the Australian government.  It’s uploaded to verify your identity and not retained.

    myGovID uses fingerprint, face recognition or password to protect your identity when logging in, using your smartphone (which is a requirement).  If you lose your phone or get a new one, you will need to install the

    myGovID app on your new device, and prove your identity again.

    myGovID is accredited under both the Australian Trusted Digital Identify Framework and the  Gatekeeper Public Key Infrastructure Framework, ensuring its safety and security.

  3. Link your business in RAM (Relationship Access Manager)

    RAM Replaces the old ‘Manage ABN Connections’ platform. You might recall accessing these previously using Auskey Manager and Access Manager.Once you have a myGovID, you will need to login to RAM via your myGovID login to link your business.You can then authorise other people in your business to access the business, (for example the Business Portal) by inviting them in via their myGovID, with set limitations if required.You can also accept authorisation requests to access someone else’s business via RAM, when given access.
  4. Accessing the Business Portal

    You can then proceed to login to the Business Portal with your new myGov ID (instead of your AUSkey), and use all features as per normal on behalf of your business/business with given authorised access, such as:Lodging an business activity statementViewing ATO mail

    Checking your tax accounts and downloading payment slips

    Viewing your reported Single Touch Payroll Data.

  5. Regarding myGov (Not to be mistaken with myGovID)

    There has been no recent changes to how you access myGov.
    myGov continues to be used to access linked services relating to yourself such as:- Centrelink
    – ATO (Individual affairs)
    – Child Support
    Medicare
    – Others
